In July of 2006 Greenpeace sponsored OneWorld explorers, Lonnie Dupre and Eric Larsen on an Arctic expedition ‘Project Thin Ice’ www.projectthinice.org. The Greenpeace expedition was launched to bring attention to the plight of the polar bear, which scientists claim could be extinct as early as 2050 due to the effects of global warming. The explorers made history and became the first-ever to complete a trek to the North Pole in the summer.
